As it turns out, you can't order the AMEX Butterfly directly online or by phone, as it is by "invitation only," I was told today (06.23.06). And no, despite my long and good standing with them, they didn't invite me on the spot even after my phone inquiry.

What a complete waste of money Amex has expended on this worthless thing. I was invited and it required I phone Amex as opposed to the "online" registration. The "case" is more annoying that Dick Cheney. I've had the butterfly for about four months and have yet to use it...and don't plan to use it. Worthless. I've been a cardholder since 1979 and have seem some stupid campaigns and this is the MOST stupid.

I have to say that the Butterfly Card proved more useful than I thought it would be. While it made my keychain bigger, it sure helped thin my too-thick wallet. Sadly, I appear to be in the minority. I just received a letter from AmEx stating the Butterfly Card program would be cancelled on 31 March. Bye-bye, Butterfly!
