They are real. I had a college professor who was addicted to them.

"They’ll generally make sweet things sour, and sour things sweet, but it will likely alter the flavor of just about anything."

Partially true; they make sour things not sour; sweets are way more sweet than one might like.

Actually, it works. Miracle berries really exist. But afaik they only make sour things sweet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miracle_fruit

It's called "miracle" because the cause of the reaction is a protein called miraculin, which binds with the taste buds and acts as a sweetness inducer when it comes in contact with acids.

An interesting, recent article in the NYTimes about it: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/28/dining/28flav...

I am what you would call a picky eater, but I don't like that name, I don't choose what I think tastes good, and it does change over time,

    >> Bear in mind that I’m skeptical of any serious product with the words “miracle” “magical” or “incredible” in their names.

GOOD thing! More disturbing is, giveaway phrases such as these are only the tip of the iceberg. The vast majority of manipulative advertising - and thus the most lucrative - always tries to stay juuust below the waterline of customer attention. It's amazing how quickly the markets can adapt to more subtle forms of deception once there is a need for it.

In this case however it's perfectly legit to use the word "miracle" in the product description since it's indeed part of the proper common name of the fruit. (Incidentally, speaking of funny protein names that end in "-ulin", there's also "draculin", found in the saliva of vampire bats.)

They suggest that taking 1 or 2 tablets during drinking and 1 before you go to bed can reduce or cure an hangover. I tried it and for me it really worked. No headache and full of energy. Really cool.

As a long Term Experiencer of the miracle fruit I tried the berries first, then the tablets. I'm looking to get a plant eventually from a really well priced place i know called http://www.MiracleFruitHut.com.

I am hoping to yield lots of berries and introduce many to the experience.
