Optical media have ALSO been shown to degrade (or deteriorate) over time. I've got cassettes from 20 years ago that sound just as good as when new. Of course, I only used top-notch tapes. Cassettes are analog, true...but they're also linear (like an album). Also, a tape can be damaged and still be saved (at least in part). A CD, on the other hand can be completely trashed by a single scratch in the wrong spot. Both media have their pros & cons.
