I’m always suspicious of anyone who buys nightvision gear and isn’t a member of any official military or law enforcement organization. But I’m sure there’s some legitimate reason why a civilian would need to be able to record video in complete darkness,

What you're saying here is that the only reason you'd want night-vision gear is to kill people, and only the government (military and law enforcement) should be allowed to do that.

Here are some non-military, non-law-enforcement uses of night-vision gear, off the top of my head.

A person I know who has music festivals and other such paid events on his farm uses night-vision equipment to see un-ticketed people sneaking into the event across his fields.

Wildlife enthusiasts use night-vision to observe nocturnal animals.

    People play night-vision paintball. http://www.wolfpackpaintballteam.com/paintball/...

One family is going to have a night-vision scavenger hunt. http://hubpages.com/hub/Eyeclops-Night-Vision-G...

Bottom line: night-vision is fun and cool, and people like to play with fun and cool things. Also, it's not just the military and law enforcement who want to protect themselves and their property.

Careful Joshua, you might lead on to the fact that you are not a sheep. *throws the wool cloak over you*

I agree there is many neat things to do with night vision other than spy and go on military missions.

I know lots of people who own night vision to play night games in Airsoft. But these people also have full military clothing. :-D

This would be a great tool to have by the bed, if you had to do a sweep of the house when you hear something, then you'll have video proof of the event if there is one.

I'd want to know if the storage disk can be replaced with a bigger one.

One would have to be careful when filming any of those police brutality clips that have been going around, lest the cops "mistake" it for a real pistol.

Did anyone else think this was a 1970s Super 8mm camera when they first saw the picture?

So I should need a background check and permit for normal home security cameras and <GASP!> my nightvision nursery camera, Oh just think of the horrors I could visit upon the populace! ;)
